Start your exploration of Neukölln with an insight into Neukölln's religious diversity -Neukölln’s religious diversity – at a Hindu temple or a mosque. In multicultural Neukölln there is now the Sri Mayurapathy Murugan Hindu temple. The red-and-white striped temple is topped with two five- and seven-metre towers, and decorated with countless brightly-coloured deities. Inside, colourful gods smile down at you from the ceiling and their are eight altars dedicated to them. The multi-coloured temple is not just a place for worshippers – anyone who’s interested is welcome to pay a visit. There are only a few conditions: you mustn’t take any alcohol, cigarettes or meat onto the site, and you have to take your shoes off in the temple. Naturally, there’s live flute music on Sundays.

Then you can carry on to one of Berlin’s best-known mosques with its cultural and community centre. If you’re interested in Muslim culture and religion, join one of the guided tours of the Şehitlik mosque, which are tailored to all different ages, or visit one of the events. Above all, the aim is to present Muslim life in Berlin and enable people of different beliefs to get to know each other.

The best way to spend the afternoon is at the Dicke Linda, a weekly market (every Saturday) where you can by regional products such as local honey, fish from Brandenburg’s lakes and game from the forests. And naturally there are plenty or organic fruit and vegetable stalls. If need something to eat straight away, there’s an international range to choose from: focaccia, tortillas, crêpes and Korean bibimbap are all served fresh for you.

In the evening, you can visit the Heimathafen Neukölln. For some years now it has given a voice to the many facets of Neukölln – with a programme of plays, musical theatre and concerts. Drop in for a reading or experience new show formats. The auditorium has a special charm of its own. Expect an evening that features a crossover of styles, genres and cultures. You can look forward to ambitious popular theatre.
