Arriving by plane

Welcome to the new airport Berlin Brandenburg BER

The Airport Berlin Brandenburg "Willy Brandt" (IATA code BER) has replaced Tegel and Schönefeld airports as the central airport. BER has its own railway station directly below the terminal. This means you can transfer directly and conveniently from the aircraft to the railway.

Tips for airport transfers

The quickest way to get from the airport to the city centre, you can find out here.

Be well prepared for the security check

We recommend that you arrive at BER Airport two to two and a half hours before your departure. If there are a lot of passengers, the queue at the security checkpoint may be a little longer.

To help you get through security quickly and easily, you can use Reserve a time slot at BER Runway free of charge

Which airlines fly from BER?

Around 20 million passengers flew to and from Berlin in 2022 alone. Flights are handled at Terminals 1 and 2, Terminal 5 - formerly Schönefeld Airport - is permanently closed. On the airport's website you will find a list of all airlines departing from BER from the time the airport opens . By 2040, up to 45 million passengers are expected to be handled

Check in baggage and bulky baggage at BER

The airport has fast bag drop machines in the entrance hall. These allow you to print a baggage label yourself using your boarding pass. There is usually a friendly member of airport staff near the machines to help you if you have any problems checking in your baggage. You can also visit this page to find out how baggage check-in works at BER.

There is also still the conventional method of baggage check-in, for which you have to queue at the respective airline counter. If you are carrying bulky baggage that does not fit on the baggage handling system, you must go to the bulky baggage drop-off counter near the check-in counters in Terminals 1-2.

Travel climate conscious to Berlin

We all contribute to climate change to varying degrees. Air travel plays an important role in climate protection, as it is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. You can now calculate exactly how many emissions your flight causes with the help of various websites. You can also find ways to offset the emissions caused by donating to climate projects.

  • One of the best-known providers is atmosfair - the donations flow into the development of sustainable technologies in disadvantaged regions
  • On the website of gruener-fliegen.de you can calculate even more precisely how much CO2 a specific flight generates and also see how well the flight you have chosen performs compared to the average - taking into account the type of aircraft and various technical parameters
  • Don't forget: Flying alone is not a CO2 driver, with the WWF-climate calculator you can find out how much CO2 your lifestyle produces in total

General rule: Avoid short-haul flights if possible - on our page for Travelling by train you will find all connections to Berlin, including the complete network of European night trains.
