Premiere of the experimental animated film
The traces of the extensive destruction of Berlin's city center are barely visible today. The two artists Maria and Natalia Petschatnikov, together with a group of women who fled from Ukraine, focus on the extent of the destruction and its effects and link historical sources with current references.
Based on their own experiences of flight and war, they developed an experimental animated film that formulates the arrival in Berlin as a city of destruction and reconstruction as hope.
The film is closely interwoven with the Parliament of Trees against War and Violence, which has been part of the Berlin Wall Foundation since 2021. This memorial site in the immediate vicinity of the Bundestag was created by artist Ben Wagin (d. 2021) and commemorates the victims of the Berlin Wall, but also the Soviet soldiers who died in the area around the Reichstag in the final days of the war.
The film will be presented to the public in the Parliament of Trees on the anniversary of the end of the war.
It will be accompanied by an installation exhibition on the making of the film project.
At a hands-on station, suitcases can be artistically designed together as a symbol of flight and arrival.
Visitors are invited to explore Berlin's layers of time in the spring-green Parliament of Trees.
