Compositions by DIRE STRAITS

A bitter disappointment from Arne Jansen's childhood is, in a sense, the cause of this program: Instead of the desired "The Three Investigators" radio play, his father had bought a strange cassette tape at a flea market. It was Dire Straits' "Love Over Gold" with the epic opener "Telegraph Road."

A chance encounter with long-term consequences: "The song 'Telegraph Road' is the reason I started playing guitar," says Jansen. His genre-bending skills on the instrument have earned him two ECHO Jazz awards, among others.

The program "Going Home," as well as the CD of the same name, takes listeners on a journey to the roots of his musical passion. In every nuanced note, listeners can sense what Dire Straits and their guitarist Mark Knopfler once meant to him and the intricately complex impressions they left on his soul.

In cellist and bassist Stephan Braun, with whom he has enjoyed a close musical and friendly relationship for over 20 years, Jansen has found a surprising yet perfect duet partner for his original chamber-jazz-rock reinterpretations of the songs of his youth.

Braun is a one-man orchestra capable of assuming the functions of an entire band thanks to an additional low string on the cello, unusual percussive playing techniques, and great improvisational skill.
