A portrait of the Spanish painter and graphic artist Nuria Quevedo. The daughter of Spanish immigrants, Quevedo came to the GDR as a teenager in 1952.

She never let go of her longing for her childhood home.

After Quevedo saw photos and film footage of Spanish immigrants in Dresden in 1970/71, she created her famous painting 30 Years in Exile.

The style of the painting - focusing on motionless, melancholic faces and in a monochrome colour scheme - provoked East German critics; but Quevedo herself was reminded of traditional Spanish painting styles.
In this documentary film (2003), the artist returns to places of her childhood in Spain and talks about exile and homelessness - themes she depicts in paintings and drawings. This film essay by Karlheinz Mund, Quevedo's husband, thus depicts the exiled artist's journey between two worlds. Quevedo, who has lived in Germany and Spain since German reunification, finds her current themes in the Spanish landscape as well as in the literature of Christa Wolf, Fritz Rudolf Fries, Franz Fühmann and Bertolt Brecht.

The film screening is part of the exhibition ‘Inside & Outside - Art, Music and Literature in Exile’ at Galerie Amalienpark.
