Autofictional musical theatre piece by Klaus Wirbitzky
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of the war on May 8, 2025, we are devoting ourselves to the topic of "Children of War." Special attention will be paid to those children of war who experienced their youth in divided Berlin under the SED dictatorship.
At the center of this autofictional musical theater piece by Klaus Wirbitzky – himself a child of war – is Hans-Jürgen Grunow, who recalls his school days in the GDR. Nostalgic and traumatic memories mingle: of the Pioneer Group, his parents' anti-regime stance, the denunciations, but also of his first love, which overshadows all of this, as well as a questionable friendship to which he nevertheless clings.
At his side: Bärbel Brünnler, who is in love with Hans-Jürgen, and Wolfgang Schieweck, who is torn between obedience to authority and his desire for freedom.
Together with his parents, Hans-Jürgen Grunow managed to escape to the West, even before the Wall was built. Everything changed. Almost everything.
