Altglienicke has a long history and is celebrating a very special event this year: 650 years of local history will be honoured with a diverse festival programme.

The place was first mentioned in 1375 as ‘Glinik’. Today, around 33,000 people live in the eight square kilometres of the district, which is characterised by a mix of prefabricated concrete tower blocks and detached houses.

‘The entire community in Altglienicke has joined forces to celebrate this significant anniversary in style,’ says Marco Brauchmann, district councillor for education, culture and sports. ’For a district as diverse as Altglienicke, this is a great example of a functioning local community.’

The main anniversary festival will be held from 4 to 6 July around the Altglienicke parish church in the centre of the village.

In addition to the street festival with numerous stalls, several live music stages and an impressive light show on the final evening, a parade is planned for 6 July.

Numerous other events will also be held throughout the district from mid-June until Christmas.
