With Annekathrin Kohout and Sophia Greiff

In this dialogical format, author and cultural scientist Annetkathrin Kohout and curator Sophia Greiff guide visitors through the first solo exhibition by photographer and filmmaker Sam Youkilis.

Known for his iPhone video sequences shown on Instagram at the intersection of street, travel, food and documentary photography, his work invites us to reflect on the aestheticization of everyday life and authenticity as a digital stylistic device.

How does the image reception of his Instagram feed relate to viewing in the immersive exhibition space? What distinguishes an artist like Youkilis from an influencer? In a joint discussion, Kohout and Greiff situate the work of Sam Youkilis between photographic history and digital image cultures.

Annekathrin Kohout is a freelance author and cultural scientist. She is currently a visiting professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. She co-edits the book series "Digitale Bildkulturen" and the magazine "POP. Culture and Criticism". As a non-fiction author, she has written books on net feminism, nerds and K-Pop. In her TAZ column "Feed Interrupted", she writes about current and emotionalized phenomena and developments in social media.
