"Who is supposed to change the world?" - "Well, those who don't like it." Kuhle Wampe', the most important proletarian film of the Weimar Republic, ends with an urgent appeal.

The film shows the struggles of a Berlin working-class family: unemployment, cut social welfare, forced eviction and unwanted pregnancy. Young Anni finds her way to the communist movement.

The film set stylistic standards with its alienation effects, high-contrast editing and music by Hanns Eisler. The 'Solidarity Song' became a classic of the workers' movement.
