ART CRU Berlin gallery is proud to present the first solo exhibition in Germany by visionary artist Wiktor Gorazdowski. The Warsaw-based artist, who creates unique, socially critical scenarios in his drawings and illustrations, will be showing 20 of his works.

Gorazdowski describes his art as the expression of a divine mission – a creative, almost missionary calling that goes far beyond the boundaries of conventional categories.

Art critics often find it difficult to classify his work: ‘It is too good to be considered unprofessional, and too extraordinary to meet the criteria of realism,’ comments the artist with a wink.

Wiktor Gorazdowski, born in Warsaw in 1979, combines influences from architecture, culture and technology with a deep spiritual-mystical mission in his work. He describes his style as hyper-detailism: ‘The situations and constructions depicted are functional and useful despite their strangeness, as they serve rational processes,’ explains Gorazdowski. His works, meticulously rendered in pencil, ink and felt-tip pen on cardboard, sometimes look like detailed plans of human everyday life and, in their own way, lead a life of their own in his pictorial worlds.

His artistic work is inspired by the work of Tadeusz Głowala. In his pictures, he portrays spiritual figures in interpersonal everyday situations, from a perspective between close proximity and critical distance, which are carefully observed and seem to come from a different time. This is how real and unreal landscapes are created, combining religious symbols with gender issues, fashion and pop culture, and a unique social image.

About the ART CRU Berlin gallery

ART CRU Berlin has been Berlin's only gallery for Outsider Art since 2008. The term ‘Outsider Art’ was introduced in 1972 by Roger Cardinal as a synonym for the term ‘Art Brut’ coined by the painter Jean Dubuffet. It refers to the art of people with psychiatric experience or mental disabilities.

The gallery team is convinced that the special perception of these artists is reflected in unique works of art of great authenticity. The aim of the exhibitions is to present works by outsiders as an important position in contemporary art and to encourage an active discourse with the established art world.

The ART CRU Berlin gallery is located in the Kunsthof on Oranienburger Straße and is a network of psychosocial institutions under the sponsorship of PS-Art e.V. Berlin. In 2022, the gallery received the Ulrike Fritze Lindenthal Prize from the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Nervous Medicine (DGPPN) for its inclusive work.
