A night dedicated to the universe and the approaching comet: The Long Night of Astronomy will take place this year on 19 October. After 10 successful years in the capital, the Long Night of Astronomy is being organised nationwide for the first time as a joint project of the Planetarium Berlin Foundation, the Astronomical Society and in cooperation with numerous planetariums, public observatories and astronomical institutions throughout Germany.

In Berlin, the Planetarium Berlin Foundation invites you to observe the sky and enjoy a varied cosmic programme in the Zeiss-Großplanetarium from 17:00. You can look forward to a colourful, free programme and glittering celestial objects.

The secret star of the evening is comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), which, with a little luck, can be observed prominently in the night sky. If the comet reaches its closest point to the sun without disintegrating beforehand, it will be a spectacular celestial event that will be visible to the naked eye. Its extended tail in particular could offer an impressive sight. Other celestial bodies such as Jupiter, Saturn and the moon also invite us to take a look at the night sky together.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is supporting the project.
