Stellar line-up at Terzo Mondo: the newly crowned winner of the most important German jazz prize, the Albert Mangelsdorff Prize 2023, Conny Bauer, born in 1943, in a cross-generational duo with the American alto saxophonist Jon Raskin, born in 1954.

The exceptional trombonist Bauer, an influential luminary of GDR jazz, has a long history with the ever-changing US jazz scene.

Having last played his prize-winning concert at Jazzfest Berlin 2023 with African-American working class heroes Hamid Drake & William Parker, this time he will be playing the alto saxophone of American composer and improviser Jon Raskin.

His legendary Rova Saxophone Quartet, founded in 1977, is one of the most long-standing, active creative music projects of the present day, with its roots in post-bop, free jazz, avant-rock and new music of the 20th century, and draws inspiration from the visual arts as well as the traditional and popular music styles of Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States.

The duo Conny Bauer & Jon Raskin pursues the great art of instant composing: with an unrivalled sensitivity for dynamics and dramaturgy, they create sound worlds in real time that are characterised by their own unique sound.
