One to one is now over, says a popular song by their first guest of the new season. They still put two and two together and find that 30 years ago Dirk von Lowtzow made his first public appearances with his band Tocotronic, 10 years ago Popsalon co-host Balzer published the book The Tocotronic Chronicles (together with Martin Hossbach) to mark the band's 20th anniversary, and for 15 years Müller and Balzer have been longing for Lowtzow to finally drop by their little video discussion group. That makes 75 in total, and now he's here, if that's not a reason to celebrate.

Dirk von Lowtzow has not only written some of the most memorable art-philosophical song lines of German post-war culture (“I don’t know why I hate you so much, dance theater of this city”, “I deeply detest you for your cabaret”), he also has an impressive collection of stuffed animals and is the author of two books (From the Badger’s Den and I’m Emerging).

Together with René Pollesch of blessed memory, he wrote the opera Von einem der ausgezogen because he could no longer afford the rent, and at the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2022, Iris ter Schiphorst premiered her composition of the same name based on his text Hyper Dub.

“I have a date with Dirk on the first day of spring / I have a date with Dirk, I want to know if he still likes me,” says the piece Date with Dirk on Tocotronic’s Red Album.

In the Popsalon, the date with Dirk opens the autumn, and Müller and Balzer can’t think of anything nicer.

We'll talk about music, theater, poetry, opera, politics and everything else. There's just one thing we definitely won't talk about: the "Hamburg School". Promise!

The smoking terrace will remain open as always.
