Can deep-sea mining be fair?
The hunger for raw materials can no longer be completely satisfied on land - now the deep sea is coming into focus. But the seabed does not belong to individual nations; the International Seabed Authority manages it for the "benefit of all humanity". We are discussing whether a fair and sustainable use of deep-sea resources can be possible for everyone and what is needed for this.

The seabed arouses desire. Numerous raw materials are stored in the depths of the oceans, which have so far been little explored. It is therefore no wonder that some countries are planning to systematically mine them.
The International Seabed Authority is to manage the mineral resources of the deep sea and license mining.
In July 2024, the Council of the Authority will meet again to address the future of deep-sea mining and thus the future of raw materials worldwide.
On this occasion, a critical look will be taken at the topic:
Who benefits from deep-sea mining, who loses? Where is it even possible, how does it work and who are the players? How can all dimensions of the topic be understood and taken into account with our current view of the world and its connections?
This event is open to everyone, but is explicitly aimed at people from the deaf community.

ACCESSIBILITY
Interpretation in German Sign Language (DGS).
Seats will be left free if you want to sit close to the stage due to visual impairments.
People with visual impairments are welcome. We will ask for assistance with guiding the blind if you need it.

Seats without seating are available for wheelchair users.
The event is aimed at interested people aged 14 and over.
Conditions of participation: no previous knowledge required.
