The exhibition “Gewald” uses the example of the oak to shed light on the toxic tension between man and nature. The artist Georgia Krawiec, who comes from Poland and lives in Berlin, uses this tree as the initial spark for her artistic exploration.

The oak has been revered as a mythological creature in Germany and Poland since ancient times - sometimes dedicated to the Germanic god Donar, sometimes in the form of the Slavic oak god Perun. This fetishizing aspect of the tree is one of the central themes of the exhibition.

The exhibition's content is based on man's dubious handling of natural resources and their destruction. In the “Himmelsscheiben” project, the artist experimentally takes pictures of felled trees in urban areas.

The “Perun” project also takes up this theme: Extreme overexposure resulted in small-format photograms on which one can discover not only tiny botanical patterns, but also traces of mold from decomposed acorns.

The sculpture group “Brother Tree / Sister Axe”, which the artist created in the early 1990s and now places in a photographic context, is being presented here for the first time.

In addition to the experimental photographs, the exhibition also features video works and installations by the artist.
