As a leading figure in the Pop Art movement, his interpretations of everyday objects and cultural icons inspired generations of artists and pop culture to come.With the exhibition ‘Andy Warhol - After the Party’, Fotografiska Berlin gives visitors a look behind the scenes of the eccentric icon.

As a socialite, he played a pivotal role in shaping the mythos of his artist studio “The Factory”, where he hosted notorious gatherings with an exclusive inner circle. Yet, who was Andy Warhol when the party ended?
After having traveled from Fotografiska New York to the locations in Stockholm and Tallinn under the name Andy Warhol: Photo Factory, the exhibition has been reimagined for Berlin. After the Party, running at Fotografiska Berlin from 17 May to 15 September 2024, unveils a different facet of Andy Warhol; an individual yearning to belong, captured through his camera lens.
Each photograph tells a story around his desire to engage with fellow revelers, lovers, and confidants.
With rarely seen intimate photographs, we are invited to experience his search for connection. Within the exhibition, you'll encounter captivating gelatin silver prints showcasing abandoned tables post-party and empty hotel rooms, inviting contemplation of transient spaces. You’ll see Polaroids of unfiltered moments with celebrities and muses, including the Ladies and Gentlemen series pushing the boundaries of gender.
The exhibition also invites you to Montauk, where Warhol and his then-partner Paul Morrissey bought a house in 1972, serving as a sanctuary for them and their celebrity friends for years.
Through Warhol's photographic vision, we're offered a glimpse into his innermost thoughts and desires, including works such as the body study Sex Parts and Torsos, which portrays the male nude on Polaroids, and the video piece Blow Job, featuring DeVeren Bookwalter's face as he receives a blow job from an unseen partner.
Those are strong expressions of Andy Warhol’s identity and his longing, you to ponder the complexities of human desire.
Beyond the recognizable masterpieces and celebrity portraits, Warhol's camera functioned as a tool in his pursuit of connection. This collection of photographs proves how images transcend time and link us to the deep emotions and memories that define our lives.
Through his lens, we find ourselves connected to the man behind the myth, underlining our own search for authenticity, meaning and belonging.
OPENING PARTY
On Friday, 17 May 2024, 20:00 – 04:00, Fotografiska Berlin is inviting to a celebration inspired by Andy Warhol’s world. Highlights includes a SOULMATES ballroom with contemporary dance performances by The Way Collective, late-night access to the new Andy Warhol and Joanna Dudley exhibitions, and DJ sets to keep until the early morning.
Regular admission is 15€. In advance, admission is only 10€ per person for groups of 6 or more!
