Garden tour from the Marble Palace to Cecilienhof Palace

Intended as a counter-proposal to Sanssouci Park, the work of art New Garden was commissioned by the royal commission at Lake Jungfernsee a good 230 years ago. But world history also left eventful memories and lasting traces in this green paradise.

Royal park walls grew up out of fear of civil discontent. A crown prince couple made their unusual dreams come true. At the end of the Second World War, soldiers fought in the garden. Three great powers conferred about a new world order. Soviet occupiers built an amusement park in what was once the royal green. The Berlin Wall divided the park for almost three decades and created moving biographies.

The scars of time and violence have been almost completely removed from today's world cultural heritage. However, an entertaining walk from the Marble Palace to Cecilienhof Palace makes these memories of world history visible again.

The main topics are the history of the creation and use of the New Garden, the events surrounding the Potsdam Conference in 1945, the Soviet occupation period and the division of Germany.

Before or after the walk there is the opportunity to visit the Marble Palace or Cecilienhof Palace.
