The Späth'schen Baumschulen invite you to a colorful garden weekend with their traditional festival on September 23rd and 24th. Around 120 exhibitors present gardening ideas, handicrafts and plants for the garden, terrace and balcony. The historic site shines in the magic of autumn flowers. The special show “Spring in September” presents colorful flowering perennials and trees that particularly highlight this time of year.

Kai Wegner, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, will ceremoniously open the traditional festival and plant a Späth alder tree on the historic site. An extensive stage program with live music ensures a lively atmosphere. There are also exquisite wines, culinary specialties and numerous special features for the house and farm, garden and kitchen.

Children's program in the house made of trees and anecdotes

The Monbijou Theater and the storyteller Ellen Luckas perform in the House of Trees. A large craft tent and fishing in the carp pond are further highlights for children. Theo Theodor, the rhyme speaker, in the person of the company founder Christoph Späth, tells anecdotes from the company's over 300-year history.

Plant compositions and “herbs – under the roof!”

In the themed gardens, the Späth’schen nurseries present site-adapted plant compositions for sun and shade beds, bee pastures, cottage gardens and flowering hedges. Tall grasses are in all their glory, while display boards offer information and tips on planting and caring for gardens in times of climate change.

The herb garden with the show “Herbs – under the roof!” introduces you to the world of herbs that can be harvested all year round. Pumpkins in different shapes and colors delight on the festival meadow.

Fruit variety identification and botanical rarities

In the historic packing hall, fruit growers from Thuringia offer apple tastings, advice and sales. The pomologist Dr. Hilmar Schwärzel, also known as the 'Apple Pope', is available to identify fruit varieties free of charge. Visitors can bring fruits and leaves. In tree pruning demonstrations, gardeners from the Späth’sche Baumschulen show the pruning and cultivation of fruit trees with detailed explanations.

Horticultural businesses from the region and all over Germany present botanical rarities, flowering perennials and rare climbing plants, as well as the full range of fruit plants from A for apple to Z for lemon.
