The exhibition at Museum Lichtenberg therefore explores the significance of places of remembrance in Lichtenberg today.
In doing so, it addresses civic participation in the creation of a culture of remembrance as well as the debate about the interpretative sovereignty of memorial sites.
"Remembering in Lichtenberg" invites visitors to discover Lichtenberg's memorial landscape together using seven themes. It ranges from the storming of the Ministry of State Security to the Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery, from Friedrichsfelde Palace to an urban planning project for a colonial quarter in Karlshorst, from the Rummelsburg workhouse and the "Wuhlheide labor education camp" during the Nazi era to contract workers in the GDR.
The exhibition was curated by Margret Kampmeyer-Käding, Thomas Irmer and Dirk Moldt. It will be supplemented in 2024 by an extensive accompanying program with lectures and discussion series, guided tours in the museum as well as in public spaces and offers for schools.
