The Pfefferberg Theatre in Prenzlauer Berg is located on the Pfefferberg, a listed site that was once known as a brewery on the outskirts of Berlin. Today, this location is a lively hotspot for architecture, gastronomy and culture. Since 2013, the theatre has offered a varied programme ranging from contemporary dance performances and innovative circus to literary readings and children's and family theatre.
A place of inspiration and creativity
The Pfefferberg Theater sees itself as a place of creativity and inspiration. The theatre management regularly invites artists to take up residencies in order to give up-and-coming artists a stage. Previous residencies have resulted in stage shows by Tridiculous, Barbaren Barbies and Lukas Steltner, for example.
The Pfefferberg Theatre's programme is constantly evolving and offers space for diversity and creative development at the highest level. Innovative new circus with outstanding acrobatics is just as much a part of the programme as contemporary dance. The children's and family theatre Coq au Vin, whose mixture of drama and circus spreads a good mood, delights young and old alike at weekends. The Pfefferberg Theatre's programme is rounded off by the Literature LIVE readings, where the audience can experience book premieres and exciting discussions.
Hexenberg Ensemble
An integral part of the theatre programme is the Hexenberg Ensemble, which has more than 30 years of acting experience in Berlin. Looking back: In 1994, an acting group began performing theatre in the backyard of a squat in Schönhauser Allee - called Hexenkessel Hoftheater. In 1999, the ensemble moved to Monbijoupark and became known throughout the city with the Märchenhütten and the Amphitheatre. The performers found their own home in the Pfefferberg Theatre in 2015 - and took the concept with them: From November to February, the programme includes newly interpreted fairytale classics for adults or children. The venue is the Glaspalast in the beer garden of the Pfefferberg pub. The glass event location was built especially for the Hexenbergler and, with its rustic bar and wooden furniture, is an inviting place, especially in the cold season.
Parieté - more than just a gala
The highlight of the Berlin Summer of Culture is the unique Parieté Gala: on this evening international artists with and without disabilities show that art knows no boundaries in a programme specially designed for the occasion on three stages. First-class productions and world premieres from the fields of dance, artistry, music, theatre and comedy meet an enthusiastic audience.
Tickets for all performances are available at the box office, by phone or online. You can easily reach the Pfefferberg Theatre with the underground line U2, at Senefelderplatz station. Wheelchair-accessible entrances to the Pfefferberg can be found via Christinenstraße or via the lift (until midnight) on Schönhauser Allee to the right of the entrance to the Pfefferberg. The venue is part of the Pfefferberg taproom, which is known and loved for its down-to-earth, refined brewery cuisine and home-brewed Schoppe beers. Visitors can take a cosy break here before or after the performance and relax in the beer garden with a view of Senefelderplatz.
