Guided tour with palace employee Andreas Woche, SPSG

With the completion of Sanssouci Palace in 1748, the summer residence of Frederick II became a place where the king wanted to concentrate on the arts and sciences in addition to day-to-day political business away from courtly ceremonies.

The Round Table of Frederick II in Sanssouci Palace became a legend at the latest when Adolph Menzel illustrated it in the 19th century. Here the king surrounded himself with important representatives of the French Enlightenment. These tried to give important impulses in the fields of art, music and enlightened reforms in the Kingdom of Prussia.

The special tour of the king's apartment in Sanssouci Palace deals with the participants of the royal round table and poses the question of the influence and limits of enlightened thinking on the views and decisions of King Frederick II.
