Prinzenbad

Swimming in the heart of Kreuzberg

Some might know the Prinzenbad from the much-admired documentary Prinzessinnenbad (Pool of Princesses), directed by Bettina Blümner (Germany, 2007). The three main protagonists Klara, Mina and Tanutscha spend their summer at the public pool. And, indeed, the Prinzenbad is especially popular with young people, which is no surprise given the young vibe on the streets of Kreuzberg. The district is home to people from many cultural backgrounds.

A pool for splashing and having fun

This is quite a busy pool and there are lots of things and people to see and watch. Even though there's a 50 metre pool, this is not really a pool for swimming laps, especially on hot summer days. Younger and older children gather around the shallow pool with a slide, a wading pool and the splash playground. Things might be a bit quieter over on the lawn or in the cafeteria with its terrace or even at the kiosk with a wide assortment of snacks.
