The cinema opens up worlds of adventure and attractions. Cinemas are places of encounter, pleasure or reflection. They are part of our personal memories, social life and urban architecture. Berlin's cityscape was and is also shaped by its cinemas. Many of the small and large cinemas have disappeared, been torn down or rebuilt, only a few have survived for many decades.

In our photo archive there are numerous photographs of Berlin cinemas, which we are showing together here for the first time. In seven chronologically arranged photo galleries you can discover our holdings on the history of cinema and immerse yourself in historical views of Berlin.
