Refreshment in the Water Grotto

Berlin's got a few surprises that are well off the beaten tourist track. Even most Berliners, when they think of the Marzahn district, think of barren apartment blocks. Marzahn has been undergoing a massive restoration and rejuvenation with new housing estates surrounded by greenscape. And there are unexpected attractions to be found in today's Marzahn. Families visiting the Gärten der Welt (Gardens of the World) located in Marzahn will be transported to the other side of the planet by the faithfully recreated Balinese, Chinese and Japanese landscaped gardens. The younger ones will enjoy a more primal fun when they get to go splashing a couple of blocks away at Kinderbad Platsch.

Swimming, kiddie-style

In the small, shallow children's pool, even the very youngest swimmers will keep their heads above water. The pool's water grotto with waterfall is also a cool place to hang out while the parents take a break from pushing the pram, stretch out and relax or maybe even catch a few rays of sun themselves.
