Exhibitions, guided tours and the Wall Walk on the former border strip
On 9 November 1989, the Berlin Wall fell - a symbol of German division and a great deal of suffering on both sides, but also a symbol of reunification and freedom for the city.
Every year in November, the impressive images from the night the Wall fell return - and with them numerous events all over Berlin dealing with the construction of the Wall, the division of Germany during the Cold War and finally the struggle for freedom and the Peaceful Revolution of 1989.
Numerous memorial sites such as the Berlin Wall Memorial and the Hohenschönhausen Memorial bring the fall of the Wall to life with tours, multimedia exhibitions and discussions with contemporary witnesses. Stories are told on Berlin's theatre stages, and sports enthusiasts are invited to experience the entire border strip around western Berlin every year as part of the Mauerweg Run.
