The participants take on the role of researchers and work through the learning content in small groups at various stations. They learn about plant species in grassland, measure environmental factors and compare characteristics of different species.

In a group discussion, different viewpoints and conflicts of interest in the preservation and design of grassland habitats are revealed. The participants also learn how species conservation projects such as WIPs-De strive to preserve species.

The participants:

learn about grassland as a habitat created by humans and to be preserved.

recognize the diversity of species and thus the importance of preserving grassland.

recognize that everyone can do something for biodiversity.

understand the concept of responsible species.

Background:

In the joint project Wild Plant Protection Germany (WIPs-De), protective measures are established and implemented for a list of plant species compiled by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, for whose preservation Germany has a special responsibility. The species protection backpack is an offer from the educational work in the project, which aims to sensitize people to species protection and motivate them to become active themselves.
