The singers of the Golden Twenties

What would the time be without Lotte Lenya and “Pirate Jenny”. With her unmistakable timbre, she shaped the specific singing style that made the Brecht/Weill songs so popular and has remained unmatched to this day.

“Men buzz around me like moths around a flame – and if they burn out, well, I can’t do anything about it!” That’s what MARLENE DIETRICH sang as “pretty Lola” in “The Blue Angel” and became world famous.

There were so many great women in the “Golden Twenties”:

CLAIRE WALDORFF, the witty, rough Berlin brat (“Berlin is crazy about my legs!”) or FRITZI MASSARY, the beguiling coloratura soprano (“A woman like me”) and many others. This tradition was later continued by EVELYN KÜNNEKE, the cheeky dancer and singer (“Have you ever kissed in the dark?”).

What these great women all had back then was wit, eroticism, temperament and stubbornness. WINNIE BÖWE brings all these famous women and their songs back to life this evening.

The older ones in the audience will remember - the younger ones will be amazed. "Babylon Berlin" meets "Cabaret Berlin":
