As the East-West conflict intensified, the Berlin Jewish community split into an eastern and a western part in 1953. In 1955, the western community therefore acquired a 3.4 hectare piece of forest at Scholzplatz to use as a cemetery. Since 1956, around 5,000 burials have taken place here.

Five old gravestones to the right and left of the middle path were found in the Jewish cemetery in Spandau, the Jewish Kiev, which was closed in the 15th century. You will also learn something about this on this tour, which of course also passes the graves of Hans Rosenthal and Lotti Huber.

After two attacks on the cemetery in September and December 1998, in which the stone on Heinz Galinski's grave was almost completely destroyed, another bomb attack took place on March 16, 2002. In all cases, the perpetrators have not yet been identified.
