Carl Heinrich Graun (1704-1759): The Death of Jesus
The Death of Jesus by Carl Heinrich Graun was a classic in Berlin's concert life for many years and has been on the programs of the Singakademie and other concert and choir associations almost continuously at Easter since its premiere in 1755. It was not until the end of the 19th century that the Passion oratorio was displaced by the increasingly popular Passions of Johann Sebastian Bach and fell into oblivion.
The concert in the Sophienkirche takes place as part of the Easter Festival 2025 of the lautten compagney, the Staats- und Domchor and the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin. An invitation to rediscover this unknown masterpiece of passion composition
