The concert ‘From West to East’ combines musical influences from Spain, Turkey and India. The programme includes the Turkish sonata Dört Şehir by Fazıl Say, Jhula Jhule by Indian-American composer Reena Esmail and Spanish works from the 20th century. The repertoire is complemented by solo pieces with folk influences from Eastern Europe.
A special element of the evening are improvisations based on ideas and requests from the audience, which give the concert an open and lively character.
Moritz Ebert (cello) and Johannes Meyerhöfer (piano) have been playing together as a duo since 2018. Their musical work is based on the theory of resonance, with the aim of effortless expression and a direct connection between the stage and the audience. Their repertoire includes classical works, contemporary compositions by rarely performed composers such as Nikolai Kapustin, Fazıl Say, Reena Esmail and Johannes Motschmann, as well as their own improvisations.
The duo has performed at festivals such as the Sommerintermezzo Pirmasens and the Sommerkonzerte Melk, as well as regularly at venues in Berlin such as the Schwartzsche Villa, the Kulturhaus Centre Bagatelle and the Mendelssohn-Remise.
