The virtual Große Schauspielhaus - making theater heritage come alive - The virtual architectural reconstruction of one of the most important theater buildings of the last century is the focus of the lecture: the no longer existing Große Schauspielhaus Berlin by the architect Hans Poelzig.
In a virtual reality production, the building becomes a virtually experienceable exhibition space, digitally reconstructed objects from various theater collections and archives are poetically interwoven through various narratives.
The project thus opens a digital experience window into the past, through which the history of the theater, its architecture and its art can be experienced spatially and theater knowledge is re-contextualized.
What potential and what challenges arise in interdisciplinary cooperation with archives in interaction with highly innovative digital technologies?
What added value can such projects generate in the research and communication of theater heritage? The lecture also provides an insight into the development process and working methods of the project team from the research project "Im/material Theatre Spaces" of the German Theatre Technical Society.
Franziska Ritter is a scenographer and studied architecture at the TU Berlin and film and photography at the University of North London. She is a co-founder and research assistant of the master's program Stage Design_Scenic Space at the TU Berlin and teaches at many other universities in practical teaching and research projects how content can be effectively staged in space.
She led the DFG project to digitize the theater building collection in the Architecture Museum of the TU Berlin and is currently doing her doctorate on the subject of architectural photography at the Art History Department of the TU Berlin as part of the DFG project "Theater Building Knowledge". Together with Pablo Dornhege, she led the research project "Im/material Theatre Spaces" on immersive technologies such as VR and AR in the theater in the digital.DTHG competence center of the German Theatre Technical Society, which they founded.
The lecture series “Theater Macht Archive” explores connections between theater and archive and offers access to the various reference levels. It is aimed in particular at young archivists, museum workers, artistic researchers and theater professionals and creates space for networking.
A lecture series as part of the BMBF-funded archive and research project “Dramaturgies of an Archive” at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts Berlin and the Humboldt University of Berlin, in collaboration with the Bertolt Brecht Archive.
