Untersucht – Entdeckungen zur Maltechnik Caspar David Friedrichs

Nine paintings by Caspar David Friedrich are on display in the New Pavilion, King Friedrich Wilhelm III's retreat. They have been analysed in terms of art technology to mark the artist's anniversary year. The materials and techniques of the canvas supports, Friedrich's methods of transferring preparatory drawings to the painting ground and his individual painting style demonstrate the extraordinary skill of this famous Romantic artist. The discoveries made during the examination are reported with a joint look at the details of the paintings.
