This quote comes from the pen of Christian Johann Heinrich Heine, the important last "poet of Romanticism" born as Harry Heine in Düsseldorf. The Good Place on Schönhauser Allee has been a gem in its ensemble of historic buildings, corridors and streets since it was first occupied in 1827.

The list of famous Berliners who found their final resting place in the cemetery is an excerpt from the "Who's Who" of the 19th century. During the Second World War there was a lot of destruction there and many, too many disturbing stories that are also mentioned. In 2005 a unique lapidarium was inaugurated.
60 gravestones were restored for this purpose. A very good exhibition on Jewish cemetery and mourning culture can be seen. Optionally, the tour then goes past the Judengang to the synagogue on Rykestraße.
