Using standardized floor plans and industrially manufactured components, the German-Dutch Building Society built some of the houses along what is now Kollwitzstrasse.

A brickworks purpose-built on the site of today's Helmholtzplatz provided the necessary brick production. The residential building at Kollwitzstrasse 52 was occupied by so-called "dry dwellers" in 1875 after only two years of construction.

The tour focuses on the urban development between Senefelderplatz and the Ringbahn.
