Three Bauhaus women for Bernau

The focus will be on the three Bauhaus women who were significantly involved in the design and construction of the former ADGB Federal School in Bernau: Anni Albers, Lotte Beese and Wera Meyer-Waldeck.

A tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site is included.

While the architects of the Bundesschule - Hannes Meyer and Hans Wittwer - are well known, knowledge of the Bauhaus women involved is not widespread.

The special guided tours of the UNESCO World Heritage Bauhaus in Bernau on 8 March will therefore shed light on the work of Anni Albers, Lotte Beese and Wera Meyer-Waldeck.

The tours will take place at 11.30 am and 2.30 pm. As the number of participants is limited, please register in advance for a fee.

Three women and their influence on the ADGB Federal School

In her Bauhaus diploma thesis, Anni Albers developed a fascinating fabric for the assembly hall that was both sound-absorbing and light-reflecting.

Lotte Beese was the first woman in the Bauhaus architecture class to design
the Bundesschule with her fellow students.

Wera Meyer-Waldeck designed the entire interior of the Bundesschule. What she did not find at contemporary furniture companies, she designed herself without further ado.


With the special guided tours on International Women's Day, the Bernau Visitor Centre pays tribute to the creative work of these three Bauhaus women and invites you to rediscover their works and their influence on the Bauhaus movement.
