The Patmos Choir and the choir of the 12 Apostles Congregation present Pergolesi's 'Stabat Mater'.
Pergolesi - Stabat Mater - A moving masterpiece
The text of the Stabat Mater probably dates back to the 13th century and has been set to music by numerous important composers. But the most well-known version was written in the 1730s.
Despite his short life, Giovanni Battista achieved great recognition as a composer, especially for his operas, which were celebrated both in Italy and internationally. But after his early death, it was above all the Stabat Mater that made his name immortal. To this day, it is one of the most frequently performed works of sacred music.
