What was created in the Rummelsburg Bay in the 1990s now serves as a model for the entire city of Berlin: the vision of a sponge city.

The concept refers to a city's ability to absorb rainwater like a sponge so that it can then evaporate, percolate or be used.

Instead of a conventional rainwater sewer system, blue-green measures such as green roofs, water-permeable surface pavements and planted infiltration systems are used.

On our tour with the Berlin Rainwater Agency, we will explore together on site how these nature-based solutions are specifically implemented and combined with each other. We also look at what contribution they can make to climate adaptation and to promoting the vitality of urban green spaces.

Admission is free, registration is required.
