Ludwig Mehlhorn was one of the influential figures in the new relationship between Poland and Germany after 1989. Originally from the Ore Mountains, he developed a spirit of resistance in opposition to the East German government and the communist government in Poland, which paved the way for many projects after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
The creation of the Kreisau Foundation for European Mutual Understanding and Mehlhorn's contribution to the European Solidarity Center in Gdansk are just two examples.
