Portrait concert on Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach with Ricardo Magnus and ensembl

Johann Christoph Friedrich, the third of Johann Sebastian's four composing sons, took up a position as chamber musician to the Count of Schaumburg-Lippe in Bückeburg at the age of 18. For over 20 years, he was to compose Italian-influenced music according to the prince's instructions.

In 1778 he went on a journey and visited his younger brother Johann Christian in London, where he became acquainted with the modern English fortepianos as well as the music of Handel, Gluck and Mozart.

Today's State Institute for Music Research was founded in Bückeburg in 1917 under the patronage of Prince Adolf zu Schaumburg-Lippe. Thus a circle closes - the music of the Bückeburg Bach once again finds a prominent place under the roof of the SIM!
