Six Organs of Admittance masterfully combines fingerstyle acoustic guitar with improvised drone elements. Inspired by an analogy from Hans Peter Duerr's book Dreamtime – fingerstyle as a symbol of civilisation, noise as the wilderness – the early releases of this unique project developed their characteristic sound.
Since its inception, Ben Chasny has toured the US and Europe and released numerous albums, including the latest work Time is Glass (2024) on Drag City. This album captures the essence of the Six Organs sound: complex guitar structures, psychedelic elements and a timeless melancholy.
After two decades on tour, Chasny returned to Humboldt County, where he found inspiration in the raw beauty of nature and the uninterrupted cycles of time. Time is Glass was created in this atmosphere and transports listeners to soundscapes that oscillate between introspective minimalism and orchestral opulence.
