One year after the death of photographer Robert Conrad (1962-2023), Galerie Parterre is paying tribute to his extensive with an exhibition of his extensive oeuvre. Around 100 photographic works, including never-before-shown never before shown, illustrate central aspects of his work. Beginning with early works from Greifswald in the 1980s, the exhibition documents Conrad’s life from the late GDR regime through the fall of the Berlin Wall and into the new millennium.
The title Angst + Wut (Fear + Anger) is intended as a dialog between the past and current problems such as housing shortages and gentrification, which are clearly present in Robert Conrad’s pictures. His photographs of demolished houses, the squatter and punk scene, as well as the old bourgeois Prenzlauer Berg are more than mere nostalgia. They are signs of a lifelong demonstrative and not least political stance.
Robert Conrad’s extensive photographic estate is part of the Robert Havemann Society’s archive of the GDR opposition. The exhibition is a cooperation between the Robert Havemann Society and Galerie Parterre.
