Guest event with the Berliner Symphoniker, Justus Thorau, Elias David Moncado

The story of the Loreley, who sat on a rock and combed her golden hair and lured sailors into the dangerous reefs and shallows of the Rhine with her song, is inextricably linked to Rhine Romanticism. This myth inspired many artists, including the Rhinelander Max Bruch, who composed the rarely performed opera "The Loreley" in 1863.

In contrast, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Violin Concerto in E minor has been firmly anchored in concert halls since its premiere in Leipzig in 1845. Just a few years later, in 1850 in Düsseldorf, Robert Schumann's "Rhenish Symphony" was created, which is less a portrait of the river than a sound-painting homage to the Rhineland.
