In the dance and object theatre performance REDSHIFT, Alba Scharnhorst and Selina Glockner explore the pursuit of power from a female perspective. With daring choreographies and liquefying bodies, the performance invites you to shift your own perception of femininity*, to experience female* power in its fragility and brutality and to indulge in social utopias and personal dreams.
Influential, ‘non-conformist’ female* bodies in particular have been a subject to a centuries-long practice of (mis)judgement: witches were persecuted, prima ballerinas adored, nymphs sexualised, sirens feared and princesses glorified. But what happens when we take the basis of all these narratives and begin to perceive female* appearance in a new light?
Ideas and attributions of femininity seem to have manifested themselves in the colour red. The interdisciplinary production REDSHIFT uses various red shifts in the artistic disciplines to create different ways of perceiving female* appearance and female* power. The intermedia choreography of bodies and objects made of tulle and steel is performed alternately by the two artists and shifts its focus from evening to evening.
