4 solos on performing (with) recordings

REC-DISORDER explores the use of sound recordings in a live concert. Four solo pieces by Peter Cusack, Hanna Hartman, Felicity Mangan and Matthias Koole are each showing the very individual approach to and handling of recorded sounds by the four artists.

Every piece takes a different perspective on recorded sound as a sonic, subjective, informative and imaginative tool in a performative setting.

In Peter Cusack's approach, sound offers the possibility of perceiving other, unfamiliar places through a sensibility different from the visual and logocentric. In Hanna Hartman's work, the abstraction of sound gives way to the free association of disparate objects.

Felicity Mangan transforms recordings into “a quasi-bioacoustic music”, paying lots of attention to the rhythmic qualities. Matthias Koole merges the physical presence and performance of the performer with the spatiality of the recording.

The evening offers the opportunity to reflect on how disembodied and reembodied sound and performance can make us perceive materiality differently.
