Wonderfully grotesque stories by Arkadij T. Awertschenko

What are a matryoshka and Loriot's bathtub naked girl doing in the middle of a Russian birch forest?

The matryoshka belongs there, no question about it. And it represents this evening of theater. When you open a matryoshka, there is another one in its belly. And another, and another. Little by little, more and more little miracles come to light.

Miracles in the form of wonderfully strange and bizarre stories by the Russian satirist of the turn of the century Arkadij Timofejewitsch Awertschenko. Never heard of it, have you? Born in 1881, died in 1925 - writer and journalist, editor of the magazine "Satirikon".

And what is it about Loriot? Just like Loriot, Awertschenko has an unrivaled eye for people's small and large quirks, he accurately, humorously and lovingly sketches human weaknesses. The satiated and complacent Russia of the turn of the century challenged the critical spirit of the writer and journalist. He created social images with characters and situations that need not fear comparison with Loriot.

And how contemporary his stories seem! Let us take you on a reading tour to Russia around 1900 and a few wonderfully grotesque stories.

Ilka Sehnert, actress, speaker & member of the Theater-Ost collective, will be reading

The theater is open from 6:30 p.m.
