PREMIERE

"Climbing through the attic, through the eye, onto the head. Keeping a lookout." Sisi Bo'wale – actor, filmmaker, visual artist, and author – presents his first portrait performance at Ballhaus Naunynstraße.

"One day, she was simply there. We bonded immediately. The mountain goat, I mean. Perhaps because the mountains are a promise of freedom for both of us. Is a mountain goat without a mountain still a mountain goat? What if there is no place like home, but home has been transformed into someone else's vacation home? What if I could be benevolent without being ignored? What if the mountain descends into the valley, if a mountain grows in the city? If we are the mountain?"

Here, Bo'wale navigates the complexities of identity and belonging, sidestepping expectations and embracing contradictions, on his way through alpine landscapes and urban murmurs. The portrait performance is an invitation to step outside rigid definitions and into the spaces in between. Where mountain goats live.

Portrait performances are a risk: What matters here is not the role profile, what you've always done because others, directors, and producers, see that "in" you, but what you yourself want to tell.

PORTRAIT is an invitation to artists to show themselves and what is important to them. It is an invitation to the audience to encounter artists in a complexity never seen before.
