After their world tour with Pearl Jam in November, the PIXIES are planning their biggest headline tour since the reunion in 2025, with over 70 concerts worldwide - including a stop in Berlin. An unforgettable experience.
Anyone who has ever danced at an 80s party or sung in a karaoke bar knows: The PIXIES are cult.
With their iconic hit "Where Is My Mind?" and eight studio albums, they made music history and had a decisive influence on the grunge sound of the 1990s.
Their eagerly awaited ninth studio album "The Night The Zombies Came" will be released in October 2024, just in time for Halloween. After bassist Paz Lenchantin left the band in March, the album was recorded with her successor Emma Richardson, who became known through her performances with Band Of Skulls.
“The Night The Zombies Came” combines cinematic influences – from melodic ballads to powerful punk songs that merge horror films, old folk stories and western aesthetics. Joey Santiago, who has previously been active primarily as a guitarist, was more involved in the songwriting this time. Producer Tom Dalgety, who has worked with the band since “Head Carrier”, directed the studio again.
The rock band was founded in Boston in 1986 by Black Francis and Joey Santiago. Bassist Kim Deal and drummer Dave Lovering joined the band through a newspaper ad, and the first demos led to the release of the EP “Come On Pilgrim” in 1987. The debut album “Surfer Rosa” followed just one year later, which achieved worldwide fame thanks to the single “Where Is My Mind?” In 1989, the PIXIES made their commercial breakthrough with the album “Doolittle”, which is still considered one of the most influential albums in rock history.
Two more albums were released in quick succession: "Bossanova" (1990) and "Trompe Le Monde" (1991). But during a support tour for U2, tensions grew within the band, and in 1993 Black Francis announced the end of the PIXIES. After a twelve-year break, they came together again in 2004 - initially just for a reunion tour, but more tours and festival appearances soon followed. In 2013, Kim Deal left the band, but the PIXIES still released "Indie Cindy" in 2014, their first album in 21 years, which was celebrated by fans and critics alike. This was followed by the albums "Head Carrier", "Beneath the Eyrie" and most recently "Doggerel".
The concert in Berlin became a cult!
