Guided tour for blind and visually impaired visitors with foundation employee Wilma Otte, SPSG
The island lies like a large fish in the Havel River. Its head faces Potsdam, its tail fins point toward Wannsee.
When you take the ferry to the island, you'll not only hear the sound of the waves and the treetops. From afar, you'll also hear the animals that have long given the island its name: the peacocks.
On this short tour of the island, you'll encounter them everywhere. You'll also listen to the rippling water at the large bowl fountain, stroll through the circular garden, and admire the last remains of the Palm House that once stood on the island.
You'll learn about the Prussian kings who spent beautiful summer days here, and about the animals that first lived on the island and later became among the first inhabitants of the Berlin Zoological Garden.
