The exhibition Passing Distance brings together the work of 24 female photographers from the Herspective Photographers collective and explores the concept of the in-between space.
The term ‘passing distance’ from the field of navigation – the distance required for safe passing – serves as a metaphor for the balance between proximity and distance, trust and communication.
- What happens when positions move closer together and friction arises?
- Or when space becomes so wide that connections are lost?
The artists ask these questions in their photographs and open up new perspectives on photographic discourse.
The exhibition venue, a former shopping centre in the heart of Neukölln, adds another dimension to the exhibition. The spaces, once a refuge for refugees, tell of hope, destinies and change, and reflect the themes of the exhibition.
