And once again, I'm on the road through the German wilderness—zero legroom in a metal cage. Gossiped, I watch a bulbous-nosed mid-60s man peeling his sausage from its oversized vacuum-sealed packaging—garbage. I smell meat, sweat, and homemade alcohol.
The people across the way whisper, my seatmate rustles his pretzel sticks, and I dive into the digital menu in search of salvation.
Between industrialization and the present, the spirit of optimism and stagnation, the barking of dogs and snoring party animals, we stagger our way through the compartments on the way to the last train restroom. We travelers are powerless, at the mercy of the wheel of time—our only escape: keep going?
If I knew the world was going to end tomorrow, today would still be a good day to travel.
